What is laser dentistry used for?

Soft-Tissue Lasers — Soft-tissue laser therapy is used to help treat chronic gingivitis, clear out periodontal pockets, kill off excess bacteria, and promote periodontal healing. Soft-tissue lasers can also be used to relieve headaches and TMJ-related jaw pain and soreness, as well as treat ulcers and cold sores.

Enhancing the Patient Experience

Does the sound of a dental drill make you want to run out of your dentist’s office? You’re not alone. Loud sounds can spark and exacerbate dental anxiety. Dental lasers are ultra-quiet, which can make a huge difference for anxious patients. It’s also not uncommon for patients to fear getting a numbing shot in their gums, sometimes more than they fear the actual treatment itself! With laser dentistry, local anesthetic is rarely utilized, as the procedure is usually quite painless and comfortable.

Since lasers are so precise, dental laser technology also allows our team to only target the areas of the mouth that need treatment, while the rest of the teeth and gum tissue are left untouched. This in turn, leads to less discomfort and faster treatment times. Dental lasers can also be used to cauterize gum tissue, which makes the treatment more efficient, reduces bleeding, and minimizes the patient’s risk of developing an infection.

Am I a candidate for laser dentistry?

Most likely—yes! Dental lasers can work well for patients of all ages, including children. If we believe your smile would benefit from a dental service that typically utilizes a soft-tissue laser, we will discuss it with you before adding it to your treatment plan. At Serenity Dental Studio, we always have our patient’s best interests in mind, and we never recommend treatment options that we do not believe will be the ideal option for a patient.
