Tooth Whitening
in Frisco, TX

A brighter, whiter smile can help you improve your self-esteem and confidence. Unfortunately, food, drinks, and smoking can stain our teeth, tainting the natural brightness of our smile.  While over-the-counter whitening products can seem promising, a true difference in your smile can only be seen with professional-grade whitening. Plus, it is a lot faster than using whitening strips at home!

Thankfully, there are safe and effective teeth whitening procedures to restore the brilliance of your smile.

Our Office Offers Two Options for Whitening:

At-Home Whitening
We can create custom bleaching trays from molds of your teeth. These trays come with professional-grade bleaching kits. At home, you place these trays on your teeth with the bleaching material for 30 minutes everyday. You will do this routinely for 10-14 days, or until you achieve your desired results.

In-Office Whitening
For in-office whitening,  we directly apply the bleaching material to your teeth. This is the fastest process, with noticeable changes in tooth color in a little over an hour.

No matter which option you choose, we recommend avoiding any dark staining foods or drinks for 2-3 days after whitening to guarantee optimal results. Yes, that does include coffee!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of professional teeth whitening vs over-the-counter options?

Professional teeth whitening offers faster, more noticeable results compared to over-the-counter options. Dentists have the ability to utilize stronger bleaching agents that can whiten teeth by several shades in just one visit. Professional treatments are customized to your needs, reducing the risk of uneven whitening or gum irritation. Over-the-counter products, while convenient, often take longer to show results and will likely not achieve the same level of brightness as professional treatments.

How long does a teeth whitening procedure last?

The results of a professional teeth whitening treatment can last anywhere from six months to three years, depending on factors like diet, oral hygiene, and lifestyle habits (e.g., smoking or drinking coffee). Touch-up treatments or the use of at-home whitening trays provided by our practice can help maintain your results. Over-the-counter options generally require more frequent touch-ups to sustain the whitening effect.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Teeth whitening can cause temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation, especially if the bleaching agent comes into contact with the gums. Most discomfort is mild and goes away within a day or two. Professional whitening treatments are less likely to cause pain because dental professionals can customize the procedure and protect sensitive areas. Over-the-counter products may be more likely to cause irritation if not used correctly.

Do whitening procedures work on dental restorations?

Teeth whitening procedures do not work on dental restorations such as crowns, veneers, or fillings. These materials are made from composite or porcelain, which do not respond to bleaching agents. If you have dental restorations and want to whiten your teeth, it’s important to consult with Dr. Kengskool. We may recommend replacing or adjusting restorations to match your newly whitened teeth for a uniform look.
